Michael & Julie Oh wait; you wanted something a little more clever than that didn't
you? I have to keep in mind this was requested by Ted Murphy (A.K.A.
murphman), and he never does things simple.
Julie: Let's start with a little background. How about 17 years of
background? I told you this was a long journey.
Michael: Born and raised in southern California. My parents moved us
from Pasadena to Temple City, CA in 1978. I grew up keeping to myself
mostly. The Nintendo didn't help that at all! I was completely
oblivious to how geeky I was and how much I missed going on under my
nose. I guess no one announced Julie's move to my neighborhood!
Julie: I moved to California in 1989 to get out of the Midwest and
start my young life in a great big and new exciting city. I chose
Temple City, California (a suburb of Los Angeles) because my father
and brother lived there and the rent was free. Little did I know that
Michael lived only about 10 blocks from me. We both went about our
lives for the next 6 years. I got married and had kids. He was in a
long term relationship. We didn't know each other. Our paths never
crossed that we know of, although I'm fairly certain I got gas at the
station he was working at during his college years.
Michael: My mother decided to move out to Monrovia, CA while I moved
about with any friends that would have me. My friends and I just went
about seeing the sights of L.A. and taking it all in. I started to
get out there more but I knew something was missing. Who knew it was
Julie!
Julie: So about 6 years later my family and I moved to Monrovia, CA.
During that time Michael had moved to Monrovia, CA also to take care
of his ailing mother. Yep you guessed it, another 10 or so blocks
between us. We never saw each other that we know of although it's a
small town and we had to have crossed paths at some point. He was
probably one of the crazy drivers I flipped off for swerving in my
lane or something. He can't drive well. Shhhh... don't tell him that.
Michael: How could we have not met? We were so close, and we hung
out at the same bars and restaurants! Monrovia, CA is such a small
town full of great little eateries, how could you not see the whole
town when you went out? By that time I was out of my shell and living
life.
Julie: In 2001 my family and I packed up the truck and moved to the
bright lights of Las Vegas. And as the story goes Michael and his
girlfriend had packed up their truck and moved to see the same bright
light city. This time he was a little further away, like all the way
across town! There was probably a huge chance we never crossed paths
during that time. Too many tourists blocking our view.
Michael: My mother died in 2000. I tried to keep the house going but
it was way too much. I ended up selling it just to end up drifting
around with a girlfriend of mine. After taking a look at our options,
Vegas seemed the best place to be. Half of my family lived there and
it was cheap back then. I knew I was going to make it out here, so I
packed up everything and moved out in 2003.
Julie: So then stuff happens to people that move to Las Vegas. Some
get divorced, in my case, and some relationships break up, in
Michael's case. They find themselves alone in a great big city and in
need of jobs. So we both went out job hunting, not together, and
ended up accepting positions at the same dot com and the rest is
history.
Michael: After officially meeting at a going away party for our
coworker, she realized via my license plate cover that I was from
Monrovia too. We started emailing, then IM'ing and finally hanging
out. It was great. She has been pretty much everywhere I have and
loved the same places. It was like talking to an old friend. I can't
help but to think back and everything I've did and everywhere I went
and placing Julie there. It was like we were together for most of our
lives!
Julie: He says I stalked him and followed him all over So Cal and
then Las Vegas. Eye roll. We all know it was him stalking me! Geez.
Michael: I must grant that I did follow her out to Vegas and didn't know it!
Julie: So let's go back to the beginning. Boy meets girl. They fall
in love. They want to get married. For two years we've been engaged.
TWO, count them, TWO years! We want to get married more than
anything but money has always been a factor and time! Where does one
find time to plan a wedding these days? Plus we always ran into a
road block of where to get married or what the theme of the wedding
would be like. Once they closed down the pirate ship weddings at
Treasure Islands our hopes of having anything remotely unique was
squashed.
Michael: We are geeks at heart. That is one of the big things I love
about her! We can spend the whole weekend in bed with our laptops
going and the TV on. We send IM's to each other when we are just a
room away. I sometimes find out stuff from her blog before she even
tells me! We spend so much time online that if our friends hear we
are having a completely broadcast wedding they wouldn't flinch, but
our family might be a different story LOL!
Julie: That's when Ted popped in and asked if anyone wanted to get
married PayPerPost style. It was so out of the blue and exciting. My
heart was racing as I thought, "THIS IS US! THIS FEELS RIGHT!" I ran
into the room to wake up Michael and tell him the news. With one eye
open, a stretch and a yawn later he said, "Sure! Let's do it!" It's
PERFECT for us. It IS perfect for us. Both of us can't think of a
better way than to get married while our wedding is being streamed
live on the internet by the company I've stood behind almost since the
beginning. We're geeks, what can we say? |
